Transitional Warm Holiday Decor Made Easy

I, like many Mamas, LOVE Christmas!  It is a guilty pleasure of mine to decorate in the middle of November just so I can enjoy the festive feeling in our home for as long as possible.  (I also start my Christmas shopping in October, I just love Christmas that much!)  On a recent trip to Toronto with my boys, I found some time to wander through Chapters-Indigo.  I want to share with you a few of my favourite decor pieces for the Holiday Season.

I love transitional pieces as a rule when it comes to decor.  This is especially true at Christmas time;  it feels so wasteful to buy something that will only be used for a brief moment (unless it’s really special!).  I do my best to find pieces that can make our home feel cozy at Christmas and that will last through our long Canadian winter.

Cozy Pillows and Throws

Nothing makes me want to snuggle up next to the fire like comfortable, plush pillows and throws.  Indigo has a huge selection!  It was difficult to narrow it down to just these few!

Greenery

I am in love with the flocked trees and wreaths.  The ones I’ve linked above do a really great job of balancing the ‘snow’ with the foliage.  So beautiful and adds an extra level of softness with the white! (My favourite!)

Microlights

I use these EVERYWHERE.  They offer the perfect amount of sparkling warm light.  They are beautiful around wreaths, in vases and in flower arrangements.  I love the length that these particular ones offer and if you can manage to catch them on sale, they’re a great value!

Artwork and Ornaments

I like to add a few new pieces of inexpensive art work to our home during the Holidays.  Art is a beautiful layering piece and can do well sitting on a console table behind a collection of candles or greenery.  The best part is that you can later re-purpose the frame.

Ornaments are always a struggle for me because I want them all!  Because my tree has most of what I will need going forward I often use new ornaments in displays instead.  However, I love these snowflake ones and I think they may make their way onto the tree this year!

Christmas Pyjamas

It is a long standing tradition in my family that on Christmas Eve everyone receives a new set of pyjamas.  My personal spin on this tradition is to find our little family pyjamas that match!  (Cue adorable, albeit cheesey, Christmas morning photos!)  I love Hatley for this and Indigo usually has a selection for the whole family (although they sell out very quickly!)

I’d love to hear your thoughts, how soon is too soon to decorate? What are your favourite Holiday Decor items?  Want to see how I put it all together? Stay tuned for my Winter Home Tour.

I love the magic of Christmas Eve and the anticipation in the eyes of my children. Opening a present (my choice) added to the excitement of the night. After a few years, opening pyjamas on Christmas Eve was no surprise. I loved tucking in my son and daughter in the their new pjs even when they were too big to tuck in. Now I’m glad they enjoyed our little tradition and can share it with their wee ones, my new angels. How cute are the Hatley buffalo check pjs?
