As I mentioned in my Top Three Favourite Spaces Home Tour, during our build I put a lot of energy into choosing the right light fixtures for each space. However, in the bedrooms I completely ignored this choice. Reed was only 18 months old and I really didn’t know what direction I would end up going in his room. I thought it best to shelve the decision and come back to it when I was ready to design a new room for him. Piece by piece I’ve been creating a big boy room for our little guy and the light fixture is one of the last pieces I need to complete the space.
The ceilings on our second story are only 8′ so I’m really cautious of how far down the fixture drops. Mike is 6’4″ and having something that drops below 7′ is off limits. Additionally, I need something that is low maintenance and fits the decor of a child’s room. This lends me to feel that perhaps a lot of clear glass may not be the best choice.
Check out a few of my top picks!
Brass Semi-Flush Two Light Metal Flush Clear Glass and Brass Semi-Flush Brass Flush Mount Bronze and Brass Three Light Semi-Flush Brass Semi-Flush Black and Brass Three Bulb Bronze Semi-Flush
Our goal is to create a space that will grow with Reed so we won’t have to spend a lot of time or money each year updating. I love the modern rustic styling of all of the fixtures. I think this style offers the perfect compliment to the Restoration Hardware inspired bed that Mike built for Reed last fall. (See inspiration here.) The warm brass offered by most of my selections will bring a new element of warmth to the existing space.
Which one is your favourite? I am leaning toward either #4 or #5 but I would love to hear your thoughts! Watch for Part II of this post to find out which one we chose and to see photos of Reed’s updated room!
