We love to visit our local bakery for all of the delicious, handmade breads and treats (especially the flax bread!) But we just don’t get there as often as we’d like. So Mike and I decided to invest in a bread maker. With our busy schedules it makes it possible to enjoy fresh bread possible every day!
I did a lot of research when shopping for a bread maker. I knew very little before I began so I spent time learning about the different features and the various price points. I chose on the Breville Bread Maker because of it’s 13 auto setting and 3 crust options. It has an automatic nut dispenser, taking the work out of timing when to add additional ingredients. It also features a collapsable paddle, which helps to make less of hole in the bottom of the bread. (This is more important than it seems. Without it, you miss out on a lot of bread because of the hole.) My most favourite feature is the delay start so we can wake to fresh made bread each morning!
I am sharing my go-to Flax Bread recipe. I was inspired by our local bakery so I modified a basic bread recipe with a few simple ingredients.
Simple Flax Bread
1 cup + 2 tbsp warm water 1 1/2 tbsp butter 1 1/2 tsp sea salt 1 1/2 tbsp white sugar 3 cups bread flour 1 1/2 tsp yeast 1 1/2 tbsp flax meal 1 tbsp flax seed
1. Remove the Baking Pan from your Bread Maker and add the collapsable paddle, ensure the paddle is in the upright position.
2. Add the ingredients as they appear in the Ingredient List. Do not mix.
3. Return the Banking Pan to the Bread Maker close the lid. Set the machine for a 1.5lb loaf with a medium crust and press start.
In approximately 3 hours you’ll have soft, fresh Flax Bread.
So simple and so delicious!
